ŠKODA Trophy Haul at What Car? Awards 2020
ŠKODA is a brand emerging from the ashes. Historically, it was the butt of jokes in the motoring world, but today it is one of the most celebrated car makers, anywhere.
This year, ŠKODA managed to bag an impressive trophy haul at the industry-leading What Car? Awards in 2020, underscoring just how far this company has come, now that it is under German ownership. We saw accolades across the range of the company’s vehicles from the SCALA to the SUPERB.
ŠKODA SCALA - Best Family Car
ŠKODA launched the SCALA as a family car, designed for everyday use such as picking the kids up from school or running the morning commute. The vehicle won What Car?’s Best Family Car Award according to the magazine’s editor because of its hugely impressive and comfortable interior space. Considering that the company only launched the SCALA a year earlier, this was an exceptional performance. The vehicle saw off intense competition from the likes of VW and Ford - automakers who have been competing in this market for much longer.
ŠKODA SUPERB - Best Estate Car
The ŠKODA SUPERB has been around a little longer than the SCALA, but that doesn’t mean that it is getting long in the tooth - far from it. This year was the fifth in a row that the vehicle won an accolade in from What Car? The editors at the magazine are unable to get enough of this vehicle.
According to their commentary, the SUPERB beat out its rivals owing to a combination of cargo capacity, spacious rear seats and price. Its sophisticated suspension system smooths out bumpy road surfaces and hugs the tarmac, giving drivers extreme confidence.
ŠKODA FABIA Estate - Best Estate Car for under £20,000
The ŠKODA FABIA Estate won Best Estate car for under £20,000 - something that it achieved the previous year. The main reason for the victor was ŠKODA’s ability to cram the vehicle with so many features for such a bargain price. Only a few years ago it was unimaginable to get some of the features you get on a car for so little money.
ŠKODA KAMIQ - Best SUV Under £20,000
The KAMIQ only joined ŠKODA’s range in 2019, but it is already creating quite a stir in the automotive world, just like the SCALA. The car won the title for the Best SUV Under £20,000, even though it was ŠKODA’s first proper attempt at such a vehicle. The editors loved the space in the cabin and the quality of the interior at such a low price point.
ŠKODA KAROQ - Best Car between £20,000 And £30,000
Going slightly more expensive, What Car? named the KAROQ the Best Car in the £20,000 to £30,000 price category. What Car? liked the fact that the vehicle could eat up motorway miles while offering a far more luxurious ride than many other SUVs in its class.
ŠKODA SUPERB iV SE - Best Hybrid Car for Less Than £35,000
Finally, ŠKODA’s first-ever electric hybrid vehicle, the SUPERB iV SE won Best Hybrid Car for less than £35,000, and the hatch version won the Best Executive Car.
ŠKODA, therefore, is an up-and-coming brand with proven quality across its range. 2020 is an outstanding year indeed for the company.
